Curriculum Information

Autumn Term

We will be looking at fiction and non-fiction writing, along with poetry topics in literacy this term. We will learn to:

Write a fable based on the story: The Tortoise and the Hare.

Write our own instructions for a sock puppet.

Write and perform a play based on Little Red Riding Hood.

Learn the structure and create our own limerick.

This term we will be covering a variety of different mathematical techniques: number and place value, problem solving, mental addition and subtraction, measurement and geometry. This autumn term we will look at:

Using number bonds to solve addition and subtraction questions.

Ordering and comparing 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.

Properties of 2d and 3d shapes.

Place value for 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.

Doubling and halving.

Adding and subtracting money.

Measuring length.

Our topic for this term will be the Stone Age and  we will be covering: -

 Characteristics of the Stone Age

The different ways information was represented during the Stone Age.

The contributions that Stone Age people made for future civilisations.

Understanding how and why humans changed from a nomadic life-style to a settled one.

Ordering past events chronologically.

Our topic this term will be Health and Movement, we will be covering: -

Food groups and healthy balanced diets.

The human digestive system and how food is transported around the body.

Investigating and comparing different skeletons.

Discovering the effects of exercise.

Spring Term

We will be looking at fiction and non-fiction writing, along with poetry topics in literacy this term. We will learn to:

Write a traditional tale based on Rumpelstiltskin

Write our own explanation texts for our science topic, forces

Write a report about our Ancient Egypt topic

Learn the structure and create our own Limerick and Tanka

This term we will be covering a variety of different mathematical techniques: number and place value, problem solving, mental addition and subtraction, measurement and geometry. This spring term we will look at:

Using partitioning to solve addition and subtraction

Mental addition and subtraction using rounding.

Telling the time to the nearest minute on both analogue and digital clocks 

Place value of 3-digit numbers

Fractions and right angles

Multiplication

Addition of 2 digit numbers using the expanded column method

Our topic for this term will be Ancient Egypt and we will be learning to:

Order past events chronologically

Investigate different societies and periods of history from ancient times to modern day

Use dates and vocabulary related to the passing of time  

Finding out about artefacts, pyramids and famous Egyptian gods

Locating Egypt in both time and place

Our topic this term will be forces, we will be covering:

Pushes and pulls

Effects of different surfaces

Natural magnets and compasses

Magnets, their forces and their uses

Discovering the strengths of different magnets

Summer Term

We will be looking at fiction and non-fiction writing, along with poetry topics in literacy this term. We will learn to:

Write an adventure story based on The Tunnel by Anthony Browne

Write our own persuasion letters

Learn about a famous poet, ours will be Spike Milligan

This term we will be covering a variety of different mathematical techniques: number and place value, problem solving, mental addition and subtraction, measurement and geometry. This summer term we will look at:

Using the column method to solve addition and subtraction

Mental addition and subtraction using rounding.

Telling the time to the nearest minute on both analogue and digital clocks

Place value of 3-digit numbers

Fractions

Multiplication using the formal written method

Our topic for this term will be In The Desert and we will be learning about:

Desert locations

Desert climates

Different forms of desert  

Humans and animals that live in the desert

How land turns into deserts

How to survive in the desert

Our topic this term will be Classifying Rocks, we will be covering: 

the properties of different rocks
